EU-CAN DO IT: Eucalyptus Oil Benefits

Yup, eucalyptus oil is some magical stuff. It’s got a fresh, invigorating scent and has a range of amazing benefits. It’s no wonder it’s an MVP-level ingredient that plays a vital role in many of our products. Ready to learn more? Let’s goooooo…

Eucalyptus Oil Basics
When you think of eucalyptus you probably think of koalas. Yes, it’s native to Australia but the more than 700 varieties are also also cultivated worldwide and the tree’s essential oil has been widely used as a traditional and natural medicine for centuries. First used by the Aboriginal people of Australia, eucalyptus was referred to as  “kino” and used in infusions to heal wounds, colds, sinus congestion, and fevers.

In order to tap into the benefits of this amazing plant, eucalyptus oil is made from the tree’s oval-shaped leaves. The leaves are first dried, then crushed and distilled. From there, the oil is categorized into three broad end-uses: industrial, medicinal, and perfumery, or scent-related uses.

Eucalyptus oil is also a phenomenal example of a truly renewable resource. It can be grown sustainably and with minimal impact on the environment, due to its rapid growth rates and high wood density. No chemicals are used to grow eucalyptus and its hardy nature helps it survive under even the harshest of drought conditions.

Eucalyptus Oil Benefits and Characteristics
Known for its distinctive aroma, the scent of eucalyptus oil is fresh, crisp, clean and with slight menthol or minty notes all backed up with a woody background. This mix of freshness and ruggedness make it the perfect scent and flavor addition to our Eucalyptus Greek Yogurt bricc, Mountain Mint hand soap, and Day & Night toothpastes. Eucalyptus oil also has cooling properties that are known to have a calming effect that can support the relief of stress and help stimulate the mind and body’s energy. Eucalyptus’s analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties may also help rejuvenate stiff and sore muscles.

On the clean front, eucalyptus oil is also known to have powerful deodorizing, antibacterial, and antifungal properties; making it a great addition to many types of cleaning and sanitizing products in place of otherwise harsh chemicals and harmful synthetic ingredients.

Truly a do-it-all type of ingredient, eucalyptus oil is the perfect example of the incredible potential of Mother Nature’s finest raw materials and how they can be used in a range of amazing and beneficial ways.
